About our Refractive Surgery Practice in Manchester

Introduction

Viewpoint clinic is very different from other commercial laser clinics. Viewpoint is a Consultant Surgeon led clinic and we ensure that your ‘Personal Surgeon’ oversees all aspect of your treatment from day 1 to discharge. From the initial assessment, through to treatment and after care we will ensure that from your perspective as a patient it is an entirely pleasurable experience in a comfortable and relaxed environment.

Consultation

‘My initial consultation was very detailed and thorough. It was clear that Mr. Chitkara had all the latest equipment. Being a surgeon myself . I was very keen to have full details of the implants, which would be inserted. I was shown a film of the operation , and I was reassured by the excellence of the technique.’
- Mr Michael C, Consultant Surgeon, had Lens Exchange surgery with Accommodative Implants

We feel that it is very important that you are confident and relaxed at our practice. In order to achieve this, we offer an initial private Medical consultation with a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon to enable you to get to know our team. In a stress-free, unhurried, professional atmosphere, we will listen carefully to your specific needs and perform all the necessary investigations. We will then discuss in full your visual and refractive surgery options.

Our treatment options will provide you with optimum vision correction possible and in some cases a better quality of vision. We will take time to:

  • Reassure you
  • Answer all your questions
  • Familiarize you with every stage of the process
  • Ensure continued care and understanding through our comprehensive aftercare programme

Technology

Our clinic is equipped to the highest standard with the latest ‘state-of-the-art’ technology providing our dedicated clinical team with the tools necessary to undertake the most advanced surgical procedures. We offer the latest, one of the most accurate and safe laser technology from Bausch and Lomb. Our Zyoptix Wavefront laser is equipped with the latest Iris Recognition technology and 3D tracker to ensure unprecedented levels of safety and accuracy. Our clinic was also the first in UK to use the new XP microkeratome to ensure a safe and accurate LASIK flap. In addition we are equipped with Scheimflug image technology and Tracey Wavefront aberrometry to help us assess and treat the most complex of cases.

Safety

Safety of our patients is top of our list of priorities. We do not compromise on safety. We treat each eye individually with freshly sterilized instruments and use the newer disposable instruments wherever possible. We are also well versed with dealing with complex cases turned down by other centres or patients who had poor outcomes. We consistently audit our results and as an academic and training Centre we often present our results nationally and internationally.

Comfort Zone

We understand patients may feel nervous about undergoing any form of eye surgery. For your comfort, the refractive surgery procedures performed at our Manchester centre are largely painless. Most procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic with early recovery of vision and return to work.

Informed Consent

Though a patient needs to be informed about the risks and the benefits, the effectiveness, the safety and the stability of proposed surgical treatment, all manner of risks cannot be contemplated. At your consultation you will be informed about the time scale of the process. All refractive surgical procedures are designed to minimise your refractive error. That is to say that glasses of some description may still be necessary after surgery to provide the sharpest image of which the eye or eyes are capable. However, reducing reliance on visual aids such as glasses and contact lenses is the object of the exercise.

Refractive surgery is only contemplated on eyes and in patients with no other medical problems. Your family doctor will be kept fully informed of your treatment. When considering refractive surgery, you should bear in mind that any surgical procedure carries risks which must be taken into account alongside the potential benefits. No absolute guarantees can be given to any patient by any surgeon regarding outcome. Surgical treatment is carried out with the expectation of success by both patient and surgeon. Both parties must realise that surgery of any sort may require adjustment as well as possible management of minor or major complications.

Our Surgeons

Our Consultant surgeons are fully trained and specialist in Refractive surgery with over 10 years experience. They are themselves involved as trainers and regularly look after patients who have had a less than ideal outcome from other centres.
